Capture Magic Moments at the Nara Light-up Promenade
“There is no flame hotter than a summer in Japan”. That’s why Nara hosts the Light-up Promenade every summer, to help beat the heat and provide a unique show that can’t be experienced during the day.
From Saturday July 16th to Sunday September 25th 2016, eight sites in the World Heritage Nara Park and three more outside it will be lit up from 6pm till 10pm as part of Nara’s Light-up Promenade. Nara Park is always a delightful adventure, but the sight of Todaiji Temple’s towering Buddha Hall, or Kofukuji Temple’s 5-story pagoda glowing against the blackness is a unique and otherworldly experience that can only be made at night.
The 2016 Light-up Promenade adds to the experience with free rental yukata (Japanese summer kimonos) and commemorative photos! Every weekend and holiday from July 16th to August 28th, visitors willing to allow photos of themselves to be used on the Light-up Promenade’s website and Facebook page can wear a traditional yukata free of charge from one of 3 participating stores in Nara (Kimono Asobi Nikkori, Kimono Rental Miyabi, or Kimono Rental Yusa), participate in a guided walking tour of Nara Park and have their picture taken at one of the illuminated sites!
